Based at SAMS in Oban Michele has over 23 years’ experience of working with both macro and microalgae. She is the Associate Director for Innovation and leads research in the field applied phycology at SAMS. Her current research focus has been on the development of high value products from microalgae and the development of cultivation/bioprocessing systems for various macroalgal species. This work has been supported by major grants from BBSRC and the EU, and several projects with SMEs in the UK. She has previously served as the chair for the Science Advisory Board of IBioIC and is currently a member of BBSRC’s IBBE SAP. She was the Co-Director for the BBSRC funded Network in Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy Phyconet from 2014-2018 and in this role for the Phase II NIBBS UK Algae and BBNET.
