Plenary Speaker - BBSRC NIBB Phase II

Nigel Minton moved to academia in 2004, following 25 years in the applied environment of the Department of Health Centre for Applied Microbiology and Research (CAMR), Porton Down. A former programme leader within the UK BBSRC Sustainable Bioenergy Centre (BSBEC), he is now the Director of a BBSRC/EPSRC Synthetic Biology Research Centre (SBRC) focussed on Industrial Biotechnology, one of six UK centres established during 2013/2014.  SBRC Nottingham (http://sbrc-nottingham.ac.uk/) concentrates on the sustainable production of platform chemicals from C1 gases, principally CO, CO2 and CH4. He is also Director of the BBSRC Network in Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy (NIBB) C1net: “Chemicals from C1 Gas” (http://www.c1net.co.uk/), and the newly announced NIBB II grant, Carbon Recycling: Converting Waste Derived GHG into Chemicals, Fuels and Animal Feed (CCnet).  He has served on many national committees, is regularly invited to speak at international conferences and has filed 22 patents. He has supervised >40 PhD students, published >250 articles (>8500 citations) and has an h-index of 49.  He is a holder of a Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award (2015) and sits on the Scientific Advisory Boards of LanzaTech and SBRC Manchester.  He has secured in excess of £45M in funding since he arrived at Nottingham.
