Alison received her BSc. (hons) from the National University of Ireland, Galway before spending two years as a teaching and research assistant at the University of South Florida, Tampa, where she worked on marine natural product isolation and characterisation. In 2017, she began her PhD at the University of Strathclyde under the supervision of Dr. Katherine Duncan. Her project focuses on the effect of environmental and light stress on the production of metabolites by marine microalgae using a comparative metabolomics approach. This IBioIC funded project is in collaboration with Dr. Douglas McKenzie, CEO of Xanthella Ltd., Oban and she will complete an industrial placement here in 2019.
