Scale Up Accelerator
This open call for projects gives SMEs the unique opportunity to develop, optimise and scale-up their bioprocesses in partnership with our Scale-Up Team, utilising specialist equipment within our Bioprocessing Scale-Up Centres at Heriot Watt University and the University of Strathclyde.

Overview:

The Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre (IBioIC) supports industry by accelerating and de-risking commercialisation to bring new biotechnology processes and products to the global market.

Our Bioprocessing Scale-Up Centres offer access to a wide range of fermentation technologies and services from small scale culture to pilot scale production, process optimisation, downstream processing and data analysis. Expert advice is readily available from our on-site team to assist with all aspects of your project from development of work programmes to full technical delivery.

Criteria for Projects:

To be considered for funding by IBioIC under this call, the following minimum criteria must be met:

  1. The project must demonstrate a clear market need / commercial opportunity through the innovative use or application of biotechnology

  2. The project must be led by an SME and demonstrate a clear economic, societal or reputational benefit to Scotland.

  3. Where an application for funding is successful, companies must become Members of IBioIC prior to the project start date and remain members for the duration of the project. Membership fees are outlined in the documents attached and are tiered according to company size.

How to enter:

SMEs should complete the Scale-Up Accelerator Expression of Interest and submit by email to the IBioIC Facilities Manager Neil.Renault@ibioic.com.

Whilst the intent is to keep entry requirements to a minimum, IBioIC reserves the right to request further information through the review process.

Project Selection Criteria and Timelines:

Once submitted applications undergo assessment for funding eligibility. Projects will be selected on their technical and commercial merits.

It is anticipated that successful applicants will be informed within 2 weeks of EOI submission and will then be invited to develop their project work programme with a member of the Scale-Up Team. Once finalised and funding arrangements are agreed, a project start date will be confirmed.

Before commencement of successful projects, IBioIC expects the Industrial Partner to sign an IBioIC Project Offer Letter and a IBioIC Service Agreement, outlining the conditions of the funding and service provided.
