E.V.A Biosystems Secures Innovate UK Grant to Advance Selectively-Degradable Plastics

IBioIC member E.V.A Biosystems has been awarded a prestigious Innovate UK grant to accelerate the development of its innovative selectively-degradable plastic additives – a major step forward in creating more sustainable and circular materials.

The project will be delivered in collaboration with the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS), with additional backing from a successful funding round led by Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Ventures.

Building on previous work that demonstrated the potential of E.V.A’s synthetic biological additives in 3D printing systems, the newly funded project will focus on adapting the technology for injection moulding applications, a key process in large-scale plastic manufacturing.

E.V.A Biosystems’ additives are designed to integrate into conventional plastics, enabling selective degradation at end-of-life. This pragmatic and scalable solution aims to address the global challenge of plastic waste, particularly plastics that are not reused or recycled.

NMIS will bring specialist expertise in polymer science and advanced manufacturing to support the R&D effort, helping to improve commercial readiness and broaden industrial applicability.

The company will also be expanding its team, with two new positions expected to be advertised soon as it scales up operations.

This milestone marks a growing momentum behind E.V.A Biosystems' mission to bring low-disruption, high-impact solutions to market. The company also acknowledged the critical support of Scottish Enterprise, Edinburgh Innovations, and Old College Capital in its journey to date.

IBioIC is proud to support member companies like E.V.A Biosystems in their drive to transform industrial biotechnology into tangible, sustainable impact across sectors.
