Carbogenics Secures First US Production Facility in Raton, New Mexico!

Carbogenics USA establishes its first US manufacturing hub with support from the State of New Mexico, strengthening regional partnerships and accelerating sustainable carbon innovation.

Carbogenics USA is pleased to announce that it has officially secured its first production facility in Raton, New Mexico, marking a major milestone in the early-stage company's growth and its ambition to build a regional hub for sustainable carbon innovation.

Established in 2025 as a separate US company from its more-established Scottish parent, Carbogenics USA is building its own manufacturing, commercial and technical presence in New Mexico, while drawing on the technology and expertise developed by Carbogenics in Scotland.

The company's growth in New Mexico has been supported by the Technology & Innovation Office (TIO), a division of Economic Development New Mexico (EDNM), including Carbogenics USA's receipt of a $440,000 Advanced Energy Award in 2025. This state support has played an integral role in helping the early-stage company establish its operations and progress plans for local manufacturing in New Mexico.

The new Raton facility will manufacture engineered carbon materials using locally sourced biomass, supporting applications across anaerobic digestion, water treatment, carbon removal and environmental remediation.

The announcement follows a period of rapid development for Carbogenics USA, including expansion of its local team and the development of strategic relationships with organisations across the state.

The Raton facility has been selected not only for its strategic location but also for its proximity to abundant biomass resources and leading research institutions. Carbogenics USA is working to strengthen collaborations with prospective partners including New Mexico State University (NMSU), The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), Vermejo Estate, St. Cloud Mining, and a growing network of industrial and utility organisations across New Mexico and Texas.

Together, these relationships have the potential to support the development of new engineered carbon materials using regional resources to address local environmental challenges, including water treatment and resource security.

The facility is expected to begin producing CreChar® in the coming weeks, providing North American customers with locally manufactured engineered biocarbons designed to improve anaerobic digestion stability, safety and efficiency, while laying the foundations for future products across the wider Carbogenics carbon solutions platform.

Creating Local Value

Carbogenics USA's approach is centred on creating value from regional resources.

By converting low-value biomass into high-performance engineered carbon materials, the company aims to strengthen domestic supply chains and contribute to cleaner water, renewable energy production and long-term carbon management.

The investment also represents an important step towards developing innovative, US-manufactured alternatives to imported activated carbons for environmental applications.

The Raton facility represents more than a manufacturing site – it is the foundation of Carbogenics USA's long-term US strategy.

Alongside commercial production of CreChar®, the company plans to expand research, product development and customer collaborations across multiple sectors, supporting the development of next-generation carbon materials tailored to regional challenges. Anaerobic digester owners and water managers are invited to inquire about CreChar® trials and pilot tests on their site.

The new site will also create skilled employment opportunities and contribute to New Mexico's growing clean-energy and circular-economy economy.
