Resources and Insights

Making informed decisions about innovation and investment requires access to reliable, evidence-based insights. IBioIC works with stakeholders across Scotland's bioeconomy to identify barriers, unlock opportunities and build new supply chains for bio-based materials and chemicals.

We commission and curate publications, reports and data resources that help you understand opportunities, benchmark progress and inform your innovation strategy. Our resources include data tools, sector-specific analysis and market insights for bio-based manufacturing and biorefining value chains.

Scottish Bioresource Mapping Tool

The Scottish Bioresource Mapping Tool is a pioneering approach to developing value chains in the bio- and circular economies. It maps raw material and bioresource arisings across Scotland down to local authority level, providing uniquely detailed insights and visuals related to Scotland's 27 million tonnes of bioresources arising every year.

Use this tool to evaluate feedstock availability for your innovation, identify local supply chains, benchmark resource availability, and build the case for investment.

What the Tool Covers

The Bioresource Mapping Tool compiles and models data across four key material groupings:

  • Waste streams (municipal solid wastes, commercial and industrial wastes)

  • Food and drink production by-products

  • Agricultural residues

  • Waste waters and sludges

The tool also provides modelling for resources critical to biorefining, including carbohydrates, proteins, fats and metals.

Additional Enquiries

We're regularly integrating new datasets and bioresources into the Tool. If your enquiry falls outside the above categories, we'd like to hear from you.

Contact us at info@ibioic.com with your request, including your name, organisation, email address and a brief description (under 100 words) of your enquiry. The IBioIC team will follow up and ensure your information request is handled promptly.

Reports and Analysis

IBioIC has commissioned several reports analysing Scotland's biomass resources, feedstocks and value-chain opportunities. These resources help businesses and investors understand where the opportunities lie and how to position themselves within emerging bioeconomy sectors.

Featured Reports

Our reports are based on rigorous analysis of Scottish data across waste streams, food and drink by-products, agricultural residues and other sources. They provide evidence-based guidance on feedstock availability, supply chain development and market opportunities.
