The Scottish Science Advisory Council Technical Briefing Note of June 2021 is now available to download via the link below. The Technical Briefing Note considers how Scotland can transition its existing excellent chemicals manufacture base to sustainable feedstocks.

Scotland has enviable natural and agricultural resources, however, these resources are highly sought after by other sectors and tactical decisions are needed to map these outcomes and develop them appropriately.

This report sets out the background to the Chemical sector in Scotland, the opportunity presented by industrial biotechnology, looks at the options for sustainable feedstocks to replace fossil fuel sources, and makes recommendations and actions.
